Just Beets-It Smoothie

It's obvious to say that green smoothies have taken the blending world by storm. Every time I pull up Pinterest or Instagram there is a handful beautiful green smoothie recipes that's got me licking my lips with delight. We are in the era of glorious green smoothies, and we just can't get seem to get enough!

But have you ever thought about why green smoothies are such a big fad? What's the deal with this obsession?

My theory....it's the veg!

People love recipes that are not only sweet and delicious, but also good for you! And green smoothies tick all those boxes. They are tasty and refreshing, and really have no obvious leafy green taste. Take my Green Vitality Smoothie for example, the name is a dead giveaway of how it makes us feel - pure, healthy and glowing! If there's a way to pack in some extra veg, without even tasting it, we'll take it!

Oh and that beautiful vibrant green colour? It just adds to how awesome these drinks are because we can brag about how easy it is to drink our greens. I mean, nobody needs to know that you can't even taste the veg! And quite honestly we have every right to brag about that. Because healthy and delicious are not mutually exclusive, it can easily be both!

And so while I am praising leafy greens for their wonderous contribution to smoothie recipes I'd like to take this moment to introduce you to another awesome veg, which has been shyly lurking in the shadows.

Say hello to beets.

Beets is a perfect veg to add to smoothies. And it's so easy to get pre-packaged cooked beets now, making it super easy to toss them into smoothies and the like. Like Love Beets for example. I just pick up a package of these at the supermarket and am good to go! And, similar to leafy greens, beets are perfect for smoothies because you don't get that veggie taste. In fact, beets have a naturally sweet flavour which makes them even more perfect for smoothies! Just another wonderful way to get our daily serving of vegetables in!

But it doesn't just stop there, it's beautiful purple hue adds an undeniably vibrant colour to smoothies so you can brag away about how healthy and delicious it looks! This Just Beets-It Smoothie combines beets, blueberries, banana, and goji berries to make a gorgeously purple hue that we can feel good about drinking.

So get on bragging about this delighfull beet smoothie my friends. Because this mouth-watering drink has earned it!

 

Just Beets-It Smoothie

 

Serves: 2 | Prep Time: 5 mins | Cook Time: 0 mins

 

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup beets

  • 1 cup blueberries

  • 1/2 banana

  • 3-4 strawberries (70g)

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk

  • 1 tbsp hemp hearts

  • 1 tbsp goji berries (soaked overnight)

  • 1 tbsp almond butter

  • Splash water

  • 2-3 ice cubes

Directions:

  1. Toss your all the ingredients in a high speed blender.

  2. Blend for 1 minute, or until smooth.
