Sari Foods: Pink Maca Smoothie Bowl

Here's a little smoothie love to start out the Monday! There is something about smoothie bowls that are so healthful, and can totally put us on the right track to starting the week. They're like a cheerleader in the form of food, packed into a nutrient boosting bowl that says, "bring it on, Monday! ... Hey! Ho! Let's go!" And when it's pretty in pink, indulging becomes all the more delicious.

When it comes to smoothies I love to pull out all the health stops - adding some fruits, some veggies (yes veggies), some plant-protein, and some superfood! My pantry has an abundance of superfoods that I like adding to the mix, like a little spirulina, turmeric, ginger, or cocoa powder, but my favourite superfood at the moment is maca powder for both its taste and health benefits. If you haven't noticed already, I am completely obsessed with maca! Maca is a root, like ginger, but not spicy. It has a naturally sweet and woody taste that I'm in love with. I love the flavour it brings to my nice creams and smoothies. To the point where if I forget to add maca I feel like there's something missing. I've also tried adding maca to my overnight oats, which is good too, but smoothies and nice cream are by far my favourite way to enjoy this tasty root powder.

The be honest, it wasn't the taste that initially drew me to the maca root, that was just a bonus! In fact, it was the health benefits of this superfood that had me intrigued. This past summer I noticed that my hair had really thinned after going off the birth control pill, and I was really upset about it. I started googling natural remedies to promote hair growth and Maca powder was top of the list. I'll preface by saying that I'm not a nutritionist or naturopath, and so the information I've learned about the maca root comes from hours of internet searching. But, rumour has it that the maca root is really good for hormonal balance, and for women it helps with fertility, regulating our menstrual cycles... and hair growth. And, as I'm a big advocate for letting food be thy medicine it was a no brainer that I needed this powder pronto!

I suppose I must have been sending telepathic signals to Sari Foods Company about this, or perhaps they saw the handful of posts I've written about how much I love maca powder. Because I recently received a big bag of their Organic Gelatinized Maca Powder to try. I don't think it will surprise you one bit that I was ecstatic for the gift; I LOVE IT! And they too tote the benefits of its hormone balancing abilities for reproductive function and fertility (good to know that I'm not misinformed!). As well as other nutritional benefits that aid in mental and emotional clarity and endurance.

What I love about this company, Sari Foods, is that they aim to bring quality and nutrient-rich superfoods to the table. Their maca powder actually comes from Peru and it's certified organic. I feel like this company is really trying to bring honest products, which are sustainably sourced and that are genuinely good for us. At this day in age it can be hard to find trustworthy companies and to know whether you're getting quality products - price doesn't always translate into quality. With Sari Foods their mission is to provide the best plant-based, minimally processed, and nutritious foods that are free from additives and chemicals. That's a mission I can get behind. <3

Of course it's a given that I'm already a maca powder preacher, for its taste and health benefits. And the only way to know if you like it is to try for yourself. When I first discovered this wonderful root powder I was surprised to discover that it's actually pretty easy to get your hands on. You can pick up a bag of Maca powder at Whole Foods or other organic shops. If you're in France they have it at Bio c'est Bon. And, Sari Foods has an online shop where you can purchase there, and they ship worldwide. For me, adding Maca powder to my smoothies is a given. Why wouldn't we make our smoothies even more tasty, and reap the nutritional benefits from just a scoop? I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hope you enjoy this healthful smoothie bowl as much as I do. :)
