There is something about the weekend and making this Purple Nourish Smoothie Bowl that brings me so much joy. I don't know whether it's the healthy berry blend that makes me feel so happy, whether it's the crunchy granola toppings, or whether the colour so perfectly resembles the beautiful Fall season. Maybe it's a combo of all three!? But, I love the complete picture of sleeping in on Sunday, lazily waking up, and beginning my day with this perfect purple bowl! It's starting to become a Sunday ritual in our home. We've been nourishing in the sensation. Hehe. And just can't deny how good these smoothie bowls make us feel.

So, what's in this purple smoothie bowl that makes it so nourshing?

SUPERFOODS! GLORIOUS SUPERFOODS!

This Purple Nourish Smoothie Bowl is a superfood haven! Meaning it's packed with nutritients. Blueberries, raspberries, spinach and spirulina are highly nutrient dense foods, and when blended together in this smoothie it's bliss! The combo of bluebs and raspberries is one of my personal favourites for an antioxidant rich smoothie. I adore how these flavours blend together. Plus, don't you just LOVE that intense purple colour it gives?! But of course the superfood roster doesn't end here. I've also slipped in a few of our favourite greens: spinach and spirulina. If an opportunity presents itself to squeeze in a little greens I'll take it! You really don't taste them in this smoothie because the berry flavours are so prominent. And I know you might be a little hesitant to add Spirulina (i.e. creepy dark green algae powder) to your smoothies, I get it, but hear me out - Spirulina is one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet! Seriously, it's a superfood at its finest! It does things like helps detox the body, it's rich in healthy microbes (good for our tummies), reduces risk of cancer and heart disease, blood pressure and cholesterol, and is even a source of protein! I could go on - but I'm afraid I'll start to sound like a bossy mom. So I'll finish by saying this, "Quit complaining and eat your greens! A little spirulina a day keeps the doctor away!" ....Okay I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist.

In addition to the spirulina protein I've also added a scoop of vegan vanilla protein powder, for a little more protein to keep you full. Then I've topped it with delicious crunchy toppings like granola, coconut and bee pollen!

"What the heck is bee pollen?!" You ask?

Bee pollen is pollen collected from bees! It is packed and concentrated by bees and stored in their hives as their main source for protein. Just like honey, bee pollen is edible for humans. In fact, for generations bee pollen has been touted as a great medicinal food therapy for treating allergies. FYI - when searching for bee pollen it's always best to buy local! Yes I know you hear this all the time, but it's especially useful here. Because local bee pollen will help strengthen your immune system to fight off allergies in your region. Pretty cool! By the way I'm really just repeating what I read in Dr. Axe's book, Eat Dirt. You can see what he says about bee pollen here. Very cool stuff! Although, don't be deterred from making this smoothie if you don't have bee pollen; it's just a topping. You can easily switch up the toppings for whatever's excessible to you, and to whatever suits your taste preference!

I'm sure you can see by now why Mitch and I have been indulging in this superfood packed Purple Nourish Smoothie Bowl. It may be getting colder out, but smoothie bowls like these never go out of season. I hope you enjoy this Purple Nourish Smoothie Bowl as much as we do. From it's delicious superfood packed ingredients to it's glorious toppings, what's not to love about this plentiful bowl. :)
